PAGE 5 SIMON BALLE ALL THROUGH SCHOOL, Reception News. WOW We can t believe it is already the end of the year We have had a wonderful. year with the children in Reception and are so proud of all their hard work and. achievements We have been doing lots of preparation for the children to transition. into Year 1 and they are definitely ready to become Rabbits and Badgers. In maths the children have been using number lines and 100 squares to subtract They. have also been reviewing lots of mathematical concepts that we have learnt. throughout the year Please keep practising these with your children over the summer. In literacy we have been reflecting upon our year and writing lots of our favourite. memories and achievements It has been lovely to see how far the children have. progressed in their writing and hear how proud the children are of themselves. Thank you for all your support this year Have a lovely summer. Year 1 News, Where has the time gone It is crazy to think that we are already having transition day.
in preparation for Year 2 The Rabbits and Badgers have all been working so hard and. in maths they have been really impressing us with their application of number bonds to. 10 We have been splitting into different groups looking at tens and ones teens. numbers and even number bonds to 20 There was some tricky challenges faced but. they did a super job of showing how determined they all are in their learning. In English we have been reading a rather mysterious book called The Flower On. Monday the children were all shown the book with the words removed and they. have to write a story based on pictures Pages and pages later we finally reached the. end of the story and the children were all so proud of what they had written They. were then very excited to read the story properly the next day and to discuss how. similar or dissimilar it was to their own version It emphasised to them a story can be. told through pictures and characters We then spent time comparing the stories that. had dialogue and ones that did not We talked about speech marks and speech. bubbles and how it is important to use expression when reading and how we can. change our voice to fit with how the character is feeling Although finding it rather. hilarious creating lots of different voices the children were using more expression in. their reading which is a big bonus, In topic we have continued to explore different seas and talked about the seaside. and the changes we can notice between the past and the present In science we. have rounded up our topic of Plants by comparing types of trees and talking about. different types of seed dispersal A busy but brilliant week. PAGE 6 SIMON BALLE ALL THROUGH SCHOOL, Year 2 News. In Year 2 we have been really engaged with our science plant topic We have. become experts in identifying different native trees and plants around our local. environment Along with this we have conducted an experiment with mystery beans. We have looked at the life cycle of plants and where our food is grown and the. journey from farm to fork, In geography we have loved learning about the rainforests and jungles We have. learnt about the layers of the rainforest and which animals live in the different layers. We have also researched different tribes in different rainforest locations around the. world We are currently writing our own adventure story based in the rainforest and we. are delighted with the writing the children are producing even this late in the term. In maths we have been recapping our learning and the children are really pleased to. realise how much more confident they are across all topics. We can t believe that this is the end of the year already it only seems like yesterday. when we started Year 2 We would like to thank you for all your support this year and. would like to wish you all a happy and safe Summer holidays from the Year 2 team. Year 3 News, Year 3 have had such a busy week but have had lots of fun The highlight of our week. was our trip to Verulamium where the children completed a Roman Market workshop. buying different items that Romans would have used They were able to explore the. museum itself looking carefully for the information to complete their activity booklet It. was lovely to see the children playing rounders and enjoying each others company. during our lunch break To finish the day we went to visit the Hypocaust where the. children were mesmerized by the mosaic still there today. It was great to meet with you all during parent conversations Thank you for coming to. take the time and celebrate your children s successes. We have thoroughly enjoyed our year with the children and cannot believe how. quickly the year has gone We wish you a relaxing summer break and look forward to. seeing you all in September, PAGE 7 SIMON BALLE ALL THROUGH SCHOOL.
We had a fantastic morning with the new Reception children It was lovely to meet them all and. see them in their new classes During the morning we spent time learning about Reception and. what it means to be a hedgehog and a Squirrel The children did some child initiated learning. and got to explore the areas in our classes and outside They all had a go at writing their name. and made a hand print for a class display We also played a phonics game where the children. had to guess which animal was making a sound and they then enjoyed listening to a story We. can t wait to have them join us in September, For Transition day in the Badgers and Rabbits class we had lots of fun getting to know each. other We talked all about the exciting things to expect in Year 1 including our topics and key. questions We got busy making some lovely pieces of work to decorate the new classrooms and. we began reading Esio Trot, In the afternoon we had fun on a walk in the outdoor environment to show Miss Hesketh the. lovely areas we have to learn in We are very excited for September. We had a brilliant transition day with the current Years 1 s as they sampled some of the topics. that they would be learning about in Year 2, In the morning we started off with a getting to know you activity along with the chance for the. children to wow us with their phonic knowledge The children were then introduced to the. characters from the Roald Dahl story that we will be looking at in September The Twits We. spent time discussing and writing adjectives that could be used to describe them We were so. impressed with the writing produced and the focus on the task. For maths the children moved between different activities such as measuring items around the. room using cubes and rulers completing some addition and subtraction maths challenges and. impressing us with what they had remembered about arrays It had been a busy morning but. the children worked so well together In the afternoon the children were told about their first. topic when they get back of Toys We discussed how toys have changed over the years. focusing on colour materials and types of games The children were then transformed into. Simon Balle All through School 2018 19 Round Up This is the very last newsletter round up of this academic year It shows just how busy we are right up to the last minute You will be able to read what students have been doing from re ception up to sixth form We look forward to welcoming everyone back on the Wednesday 4th September especially our new students It just remains for me to wish
