DISTRICT GOVERNING BOARD AS WELL AS McSWEENY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THAT REGULAR. AND PUNCTUAL ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL IS AN ABSOLUTE REQUIREMENT FOR A SUCCESSFUL. THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE, The purpose of all students attending school is to receive an education The responsibility of every student. is to attend school daily and be on time School programs including the daily instructional program and. extended intervention and enrichment classes lose revenue every day a student is absent California law. requires that children from six to eighteen years of age attend school regularly Our entire school. community is committed to reducing absenteeism Please take vacations during designated vacation time. in accordance with the school calendar Students may be dropped from the school requiring reenrollment. upon your return See independent study,PERFECT ATTENDANCE. A student having Perfect Attendance for the purpose of receiving an award at the end of the school year. will be defined as a student that has zero 0 tardies or early releases combined as well as zero 0 absences. from school Absences cleared through Saturday School are NOT eligible for Perfect Attendance Perfect. Attendance means perfect attendance,OUTSTANDING ATTENDANCE. A student having Outstanding Attendance for the purpose of receiving an award at the end of the school. year will be defined as a student that has five 5 or less absences tardies or early releases combined from. school Absences made up through Saturday School will be eligible towards an Outstanding Attendance. SATURDAY SCHOOL, Saturday School is designed to respond to the problem of lost instructional time due to having been absent. Under Education Code 37223 students can attend Saturday Attendance School to make up time for. absences Students participate in learning activities as well as physical education Saturday School will not. be punitive in nature It will be filled with fun learning activities Only students with absences may attend. We will have six 6 Saturday Schools throughout the year Check with the attendance office for dates. RESPONSIBILITY FOR CHILD S EDUCATION AND ATTENDANCE AT SCHOOL. The California Education Code 48200 requires that children attend school on a regular basis and specifically. defines the attendance requirements excused and unexcused absences truancy and the legal enforcement. of these laws,ABSENCE TARDY DEFINITIONS, Three tardies of 30 minutes or more constitutes a truancy.
The only legal excused absence tardy is due to illness medical optical or dental appointments or a death. in the immediate family verified by parent upon return to school All other absences are unexcused. Even though the parent is aware that the student is not in school such absences or tardies as entertaining. visitors private shopping visiting friends vacations or other personal reasons will be. marked unexcused Absences by the student without parent knowledge will be marked TRUANT. When a parent does not call or email the attendance office to state the reason why their child was absent. it is considered uncleared, The student is required to make up any work missed as a result of any absence whether excused or. unexcused It is the parent s and student s responsibility to get missed work to complete it and turn it in. by the expected due date,You can provide verification of an absence by. Sending a note when your child is absent with the reason. CONSEQUENCES, 1 A student is classified as truant if he she has three unexcused uncleared absences within any school. 2 A Stage 1 letter is automatically generated and mailed at this point from the attendance office This is a. warning and we want to see an improvement in the attendance of the student. 3 Upon the second truancy of any student the parents will receive a Stage 2 notification of the truancy. in writing Again we would expect to see an improvement in the attendance of the student. 4 Upon the third truancy of any student the parents will receive a Stage 3 notification in writing and. will be required to attend a meeting with the school administration Saturday School will be. mandated at this point At the discretion of the School and or District administration the truancy. will be referred to the local law enforcement agency for a home visit The California Education Code. requires that further truancies be referred to the School Attendance Review Board SARB. INDEPENDENT STUDY, Independent Study is available for students who are going to be absent five 5 or more days The principal.
shall approve independent study for an individual student only upon determining that the student is. prepared to meet the district s requirements for independent study and is likely to succeed in independent. study as well as or better than he she would in the regular classroom Parents need to notify the office at. least 72 hours in advance so that the teacher can prepare the work that will be missed All of the work must. be turned in upon the return of the student or the days missed will be classified as unexcused absences. WITHDRAWAL FROM SCHOOL, If you are moving please be sure to check your child out of school in the office as well as the classroom The. office staff can provide information to assist you in preparing to enter your new school There is a. withdrawal form that helps both McSweeny Elementary and the new school where you are moving to. Students must report to class promptly Tardiness will be handled by the classroom teachers and school. attendance clerk Three tardies in excess of 30 minutes or more will result in a truancy situation An. excessive tardy letter will be sent home Subsequent tardies can result in possible attendance officer contact. ANTI BULLYING POLICY McSweeny Elementary along with the Hemet Unified School District takes. a serious stand against bullying We have three school rules Be Responsible Be Respectful and Be Safe. We define respect as follows Treating others with the dignity and regard you would want to be treated. with Bullying is defined as follows It is a mean one sided activity intended to harm where those doing. the bullying get pleasure from a targeted child s pain and or misery Bullying can be verbal physical. and or relational It is usually continuous and repeated over time. When Bullying Occurs, Students have two ways of reporting bullying They can report anonymously by completing a SNAP. Students Needing Assistance and Praise form and dropping it one of the boxes in the office library. or fifth grade pod The box will be checked every two days at a minimum Students can also report. bullying to any adult on campus supervisor teacher custodian librarian administrator etc. Cyber Bullying, When Cyber Bullying is brought to the attention of an administrator and it is found to be interfering. with a student s ability to effectively participate in school the administrator will investigate. Investigation, An administrator will investigate the claim within 24 hours of receiving the complaint This entails. talking with the victim the perpetrator and any witnesses If the alleged bullying is found to be true a. consequence will be assigned to the perpetrator which will include one or more of the following. depending on the severity of the situation detention suspension a phone call home referral to our. school counselor and or a meeting with the student and their parent. Bullying Prevention, The McSweeny discipline team developed universal rules behavioral expectations and consequences.
An annual anonymous survey is administered to all students K 5 to compile data on Hotspots for. bullying and the frequency in which it is occurring We then use the data from the survey to make. decisions regarding supervision and or to further develop our plan to combat bullying. Students are asked not to arrive on campus earlier than 7 00 AM Students may not wait for any length of. time after school to attend meetings such as scouts etc We do not have the personnel to provide. supervision outside of the specified arrival and departure times No child is permitted to leave the school. grounds before school is dismissed without permission from the office Students are not allowed to be. picked up by anyone other than those adults named on the student s emergency card All adults must. show a picture I D in order to pick up a student during school hours A student will not be released to. anyone not listed on the emergency card and or anyone not safe to supervise a child. IMPORTANT ANY STUDENT NOT PICKED UP WITHIN ONE HALF HOUR OF DISMISSAL. FROM SCHOOL OR AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES CLASSES WILL BE CONSIDERED AS. NEGLECTED AND THE POLICE DEPARTMENT MAY BE CONTACTED TO PICKUP THE. ARTICLES FROM HOME Toys electronic devices such as an MP3 iPod iTouch game system and or. personal items may NOT be brought from home This will prevent loss or damage of something that may. be of personal or monetary value The school is not responsible for loss of personal property Please know. that the school will not search for personal property Personal items of inappropriate nature should not be. brought or displayed NO SPORTS EQUIPMENT, BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT Is scheduled during the 2nd week of school During this evening the. principal teachers will present various programs activities and policies. NO BALLOONS OF ANY TYPE ARE NOT ALLOWED,DURING SCHOOL HOURS.
