Classical Drawing, Drawing is without a doubt the most important fundamental skill required in learning to. create art It is the very basic vocabulary to the language of any art medium It is a tool that. enables the artist to translate his her ideas into form. Yet the ability to draw is not given to anyone through inheritance It must be learned. through constant practice To learn how to draw successfully one must go through the process. of learning how to see until the artist s hand becomes the extension of his her eye. This workshop offers helpful advice and experiences to students struggling to attain. vitality of technique and confidence of perception It will emphasize the fundamental skills. necessary for communicating what one sees and feels by focusing on formal elements such as. line value volume texture and space We will examine a variety of subject matters including. still life and portraiture In the process we explore various media and techniques of drawing. COURSE REQUIREMENTS, This course will emphasize the skills and knowledge necessary for creating drawings by. focusing on formal concepts and techniques such as perspective composition value volume. and texture We will examine a variety of techniques of classical drawing as well as instructional. methodology, Attendance Attendance is required for all classes late arrival and or early departure more than. once may be considered as an absence Each absence may result in a lower grade. Students are expected to obtain the notes and information for classes they must. Requirements Final portfolio Each student must present all drawings done in class and all. homework assignments in order to get a final grade. Students are expected to paint outside of class at least 6 hours per week and. projects must be turned in on due dates Late work may be accepted but a grade. loss may result, Critiques are mandatory Missing a critique is like missing an exam although.
making it up is impossible Students are expected to actively participate in. critiques and are expected to master the technical terms used during the semester. Grading GRADES WILL BE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA. 30 Technique and skill, 30 Development and improvement. 40 Effort and involvement participation in critiques attendance understanding of. the various principles of painting and ability to articulate them. GENERAL GRADE INTERPRETATION, A Outstanding work and effort in and outside of class. B Very good work and effort clearly above the minimum requirements. C Good but average work and effort meeting all requirements. D Below average and contributing less than the required effort. F Not enough work to justify credit for the course.
